Underwater Clean-Up Contest

The Phuket Tourist Association has scheduled this year's "Patong Carnival Underwater Clean-Up Contest" on Saturday, November 1st this year.

The Underwater Clean-Up Contest will help preserve Patong Bay's underwater environment and also will help to promote environmental awareness amongst participating divers, locals and visiting tourists.

The goal is to get at least 30 dive-teams together on this day and to collect as much trash as possible. During the 2002 Clean-Up we collected more than 2000 kg of trash in one single day!

Each team should have 4 divers in it and bring full scuba gear for each diver (including tanks and weights) and meet at Patong Beach at 09:30 AM on November 1st.

ANY certified diver can join this event for free!

Lunch, drinking water, garbage collection bags and use of longtail boats with Captain will be provided for on Patong Beach.

The contest will run between 10:00 AM and 14:00 PM and divers may dive as much as they wish in this time.

The 3 teams that bring in most trash will be rewarded with money-prices ranging from 3000-7000 Baht per team.

We invite you to join this fun-event with us and send your team(s) to Patong Beach on November 1st.

Applying is very simple:

Give your team-members names and certification details before October 28th by phone to Khun Paitul of the Phuket Marine Biological Center at 01-5370047 and also include the name of the Dive Company that you're with/working for.
